Hear from leaders in government, media and research about their views on Cambridge Children's Hospital.
We are grateful for all the people we have worked with over the years to help turn Cambridge Children's Hospital into a reality. Below is a selection of what others have said about us.
If you're interested in working with us, please read how you can help with the campaign.
Dame Rachel de Souza, Children's Commissioner for England
The Children's Commissioner for England, Dame Rachel de Souza, has been an advocate for the Cambridge Children's Hospital project since visiting the site in 2024. She met the project team, CUH and CPFT leadership, and young people involved in the project. She described the teenagers as "inspirational". She said: "I am looking forward to seeing how the hospital’s innovative approach to treating mental and physical health will better support children in the East of England."
In March 2026, Dame Rachel was the keynote speaker at the Cambridge Children's Hospital inaugural conference. Afterwards she said:
"I'm really supportive of Cambridge Children's because it sees the child as a whole person and the thinking about children's mental health, their wellbeing, their education and not splicing children into bits, with just a health bit. I love that in the vision here. I'm a massive supporter." Watch the full video below.

Dr Xand van Tulleken, Broadcaster and health campaigner
Dr Xand Van Tulleken visited the Cambridge Children's Hospital team in March 2024 and has been an enthusiastic supporter ever since. He has championed our approach to patient and carer engagement, chairing a lively panel discussion with young people and parents at our conference in March 2026.
He said: “It’s so impressive that the children, the patients themselves and their families are helping shape the entire design of a hospital that will benefit the entire region, and that genuinely blows my mind. It’s a whole new way of doing medicine and this is the model of how all healthcare should be delivered.”
Describing Cambridge Children's Hospital as "the most important healthcare project in the world", Dr Xand said integrating mental and physical healthcare, with research, will improve outcomes for children and families in the East of England, and beyond.

David Rowitch, Professor of Paediatrics, University of Cambridge
“Cambridge Children’s Hospital is leading the way towards integrated physical and mental healthcare for children, setting a new standard of support —whether they’re managing cancer, an eating disorder, or another challenge. By keeping education at the heart of what we do, we’ll make sure kids not only recover, but also gain the skills and confidence to thrive in their communities.”
"Embedded University of Cambridge research into disease origins, early detection and intervention, Cambridge Children’s Hospital will catalyse discovery and new ways of working in paediatrics nationally and globally.”
Bonnie Garmus, Author
Lessons in Chemistry author, Bonnie Garmus, spoke at a literary event in March 2024, with all profits going to Cambridge Children's Hospital. She said afterwards that the vision of the new hospital made complete sense to her.
“I think mental health and physical health are completely tied, there’s no way that can you separate the two. So having them together in one building is really important for the child, probably extra important for the parent so they don’t have to go all over the place. It’s a holistic approach, which only makes sense."
"I was the Mom of a child who was very ill when she was young and we lived in a city, in Seattle that had a great children’s hospital and I’m very grateful for that. I think all children should be near a great hospital.”

Stephen Fry, Broadcaster
“I am delighted to support Cambridge Children’s Hospital, the first purpose built hospital to integrate children’s mental and physical healthcare.”
“This is the very first of its kind, a new approach to healthcare, a new type of children’s hospital. A hospital built from scratch, which understands the whole child drawing on research into mind and body to treat mental and physical health together, seeing a person, not just a patient, taking care of them, not just their illness.”
