Our campaign priorities

The Whole Child – Treating mind and body as one

Traditionally, mental and physical health has been treated separately, and yet they could not be more connected. Cambridge Children’s Hospital will break down the divide between mental and physical healthcare through integrated wards and psychologically informed care delivered by staff throughout the hospital. This holistic approach will support the whole family, not just the child who is unwell.

A hospital school on the ground floor, along with classrooms on every ward, will help ensure children don’t fall behind with their education and maintain some normality in their day. There will also be quiet areas for parents to work or take time out. This model of care will be a world-first. Ensuring early intervention and joined-up care, leading to longer, healthier lives for children.

The Whole Future – Using research to improve child health

Cambridge Children’s hospital is not only about treatment, but prediction and prevention, reimagining the story of child health. Our research hub, the Cambridge Children’s Research Institute (CCRI), is housed within the hospital, uniting care, research and innovation for children and young people for the first time in the UK.

The CCRI will host seven interdisciplinary research centres, each addressing a major driver of childhood illness.

Jafar Centre for Genomic Medicine

Leading national efforts to integrate whole genome sequencing into NICU care, transforming diagnosis of rare diseases.

Thompson Family Centre for Mental Health and Neurodevelopment

Addressing the urgent challenge of child and adolescent mental illness with integrated, data-informed models.

Razan and Adnan Said Centre for Perinatal Medicine

Improving maternal and newborn outcomes with a focus on early prediction and prevention.

K Lisa Yang Autism Clinical Centre

Autism research aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of autistic people and their families.

Centre for Childhood Cancer

Conducting translational research in genomics and cell therapies for rare childhood cancers.

Centre for Diabetes and Metabolic Research

Investigating how pregnancy exposures and childhood environments shape obesity and diabetes risk.

Centre for Children’s Gut Health

Exploring the early immune system and its role in gut health, allergy, and mental wellbeing.

The Whole Community – Bringing specialist care closer to home

Children and families across the East of England will have better, more equitable access to the care they need, with less time away from home, school and their community.

The new hospital will help tackle unequal access to services and participation in research across the region. Our ambition is for every child who would benefit to participate in research/clinical trials. Anything developed here can be rolled out across the NHS.

The Whole Picture – Building a new model for children’s healthcare

Cambridge Children’s Hospital is more than a hospital. By embracing collaboration with partners on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and leading advances in data, digital healthcare and AI, we will accelerate transformation, becoming a national and international exemplar of how care, science and innovation can come together to support prevention, improve health outcomes and power growth.
