What does a typical day look like for you?

I lead on all things workforce for the Cambridge Children's Hospital project.  It's my role to make sure we have the right people, in the right place, with the right skills, to deliver the integrated model of care in the hospital.  On any given day I might be having conversations with various services about what staff they need in their team; working with local universities to understand the future supply of students and graduates in registered healthcare roles; developing plans for upskilling colleagues in our 'Whole Child' approach; thinking about how we can successfully bring together people from different organisations, from policies and processes to culture and ways of working; planning how we can enable easier movement of staff between organisations and how we might build skills and expertise across the whole of the East of England through things like secondments, rotational roles or joint appointments.

What inspired you to join the Cambridge Children’s Hospital Project?

I was excited to join the Cambridge Children's Hospital project because of the opportunity to build something new and get it right from the beginning, in a way that fits the needs of colleagues, children, young people and families. I love the variety my role brings and am still learning every day alongside brilliant colleagues.

I originally trained in Human Resources through the NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme and have mostly worked in workforce-related projects, as well as a few years specialising in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. My career has seen me spend time at Royal Papworth Hospital, Health Education England (now part of NHS England), Cambridge University Hospitals and West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.

Working with service leads to understand what our workforce needs to look like in the future, and how we get from where we are now to where we want to be.
